Retrieve lost files

If you accidentally delete a file or make an unwanted modification to it, there can be several possibilities to recover it in its original form. The file must be inside you home directory, not on the local hard disk of a PC (as would be the My Documents folder of Windows or the /tmp or /scratch in Linux). Also, the file must have been there in the night before or earlier, when our backups are done. If you created and deleted the file on the same day, it cannot be recovered.

If the file was there in the night before, you can easily recover the file yourself. Just look inside YESTERDAY_FILES of your home directory, which is a read-only snapshot of your home directory as of last night. You should find the file there and be able to copy it back into its original location.

If the file is not there, please contact us and we can try to recover it from our backup tapes which cover several months.
