Chandra: The Journey of a Star
ICTP presents film on life of Nobel astrophysicist
As part of its activities to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy (IYA), ICTP will be presenting the documentary "Chandra: The Journey of a Star," by Enrico Agapito and Giuseppe Mussardo, on 30 April. The documentary showcases the life of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, a Nobel laureate in physics for his studies on the physical processes important to the structure and evolution of stars.
The documentary will be shown in the ICTP Main Lecture Hall of the Leonardo Building at 16:00.
The IYA 2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei and aims at stimulating worldwide interest, especially among young people, in astronomy and its contributions to society. In addition to hosting the presentation of the Chandra documentary, ICTP is participating in several other IYA events, including the twelfth Marcel Grossmann Meeting, which will take place in Paris from 12 to 18 July 2009. The Marcel Grossmann Meetings were co-founded in 1975 by ICTP founder Abdus Salam.
