IN THE NEWS
A number of articles both in science news magazines and trade journals recently profiled research activities and conferences taking place at the ICTP. In October, Physics World contained a feature article on the ICTP Dirac Medal and its two most recent winners, Stephen Adler of the Institute for Advanced Study and Roman Jackiw of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In December, Physics World also published an overview of the Centre's involvement in the promotion of science in the developing world. During the same month, Nature featured a one-page news account of the 10th General Meeting of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), held at the Centre during the second week in December. Meanwhile, the December edition of the monthly computer magazine, Linux Journal, contained an article on ICTP efforts to promote "wireless" communications in Africa that was bylined by researchers associated with Centre's Programme of Training and System Development on Networking and Radiocommunications. And, in early January, the technical article section of Science contained a research article written jointly by staff scientists at ICTP, the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) and Italy's National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM). The article described the group's recent modelling simulations that were designed to increase our understanding of the icy environments found in the distant planets Neptune and Uranus.
