Setting the ICTP logo in emails
Thunderbird on macOS
If your Mac is managed by ICTP:
- From inside the ICTP (or via VPN), run Managed Software Center, perform any pending updates and check for updates again, to make sure everything is ready.
- Close Thunderbird
- Run the app Set_ICTP_Signatures which you should find among your applications. Check that it's at least version 4.0 (February 2025).
- You should be all set. When you create a new message in Thunderbird, you should see the logo of the Anniversary in the signature.
If you don't have the app Set_ICTP_Signatures you can download it from here while you are inside the ICTP network, and then follow steps 2 to 4 above.
If there is any problem, please contact the ICTS.
In case you want to modify the text of a signature after the logo was added:
- Go to Thunderbird's Account Settings.
- If you use shared folders: Manage Identities and Edit the identity for which you want to modify the signature.
- Remove the tick from Attach the signature from a file instead.
- Edit the signature text above this checkbox as you prefer, for example add an empty line at the end to increase the space between your text and the logo.
- Save the settings, close Thunderbird and re-run the app Set_ICTP_Signatures.
To undo the changes done by the app (i.e. get rid of the logo), perform steps 1 to 3 of the above list and save the settings.
Virtual Machines on administrative computers
Some computers have Thunderbird set up in a virtual machine as well, in order to interact with FileMaker. We don't recommend to modify the signature settings there as it can easily mess up the the layout of the messages created by FileMaker.
Thunderbird in Linux and Windows
We have no automatic script for Linux or Windows. You can download this HTML file, go to Thunderbird's Account Settings, tick the option Attach the signature from a file instead and choose the downloaded file.
Using a text editor, you can add text of your choice to the signature. Use HTML markup like <br /> for line breaks, <b>...</b> for bold face, etc. Don't use sophisticated programs to edit the html file because Thunderbird might not be able to handle the resulting file.
If you have multiple identities, create more copies of the signature file and edit each one accordingly.
Apple Mail
- Download the logo.
- From the menu of Apple Mail, open Settings...
- Go to the Signatures tab.
- Using the Finder, drag and drop the downloaded file to each signature that should have the logo.
