TOPIC The aim of the School and Workshop is to introduce the problems and methods of computational algebra and number theory. Recently, enormous progress has been made in this area, both as a consequence of the increased computing capabilities and the development of powerful algorithms and their associated mathematics. The workshop will focus on the interplay between high level theoretical mathematics and the challenges and successes of its computational counterpart. During the second week of this activity, an AIM workshop, co-sponsored by the NSF and ICTP, will be held from June 25 - 29, 2012. This workshop entitled Hypergeometric Motives will be an intense and focused research activity centered around the L-functions that arise from hypergeometric data. The goal is to deepen the theoretical and computational understanding of these L-functions. More information can be found at: http://www.aimath.org/ARCC/workshops/hypermotives.html At the end of the first week, the organizers will invite some of the school participants to join the more focused AIM workshop. The school will continue into the second week, which may be more in the style of a conference. PARTICIPATION Scientists from all countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend the Workshop. As the activity will be conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of this language. There is no registration fee. Travel and subsistence expenses of participants should be borne by their home institutions. Limited funds are available for some participants who are nationals of, and working in, a developing country, to be selected by the Organizers. However, every effort should be made by candidates to secure at least partial support for their travel expenses. Deadline for applications 28 February 2012   |
